Purpose

The usage.threshold.exceeded.precommitment webhook is triggered when a customer has used a set percentage of their pre-committed units on a usage brick, e.g. 90% of the units they committed to. Configure the percentages on the brick under Usage alerts. See Usage Alerts for setup.

When it fires

  • Only usage beyond the brick’s included units counts toward the pre-commitment. The included units are used up first.
  • It fires only when the brick has a pre-commitment. A brick with included units and no pre-commitment never sends it.
  • The percentage is measured over the pre-commitment’s own window: each month, each reset period, or the whole contract when the pre-commitment is paid all upfront.
  • It fires once per threshold in each window. If one usage record crosses several thresholds, one event is sent for each threshold crossed.
  • It also fires for usage pools. The units and money usage webhooks do not.
Only usage in the current billing period is checked. Backfilling usage for an earlier period does not send this webhook.

Payload format

Your configured endpoint will receive a Usage Threshold payload with alerting_target_type set to pre-committed. Both values are percentages.
